The Pentair IntelliCenter 523961 i8PS is a complete, factory-bundled automation system for a pool and spa running on one shared set of equipment — the same pump, filter and heater serving both bodies of water. The i8PS personality gives eight functions: a dedicated filter pump circuit plus seven auxiliary circuits, which comfortably covers a pump, heater, several lighting zones, a cleaner, a booster pump and a water feature on a typical residential pad. Intake and return valve control is built into the personality, so switching between pool and spa is handled by the system rather than by hand.

This bundle ships in an IntelliCenter Load Center — the enclosure variant with a built-in circuit breaker subpanel rated 120/240 VAC, single phase, so electrical distribution lives in the same housing as the automation. Salt chlorination is genuinely part of the kit rather than an option: both the salt chlorine generator transformer and the IntelliChlor Plus40 cell are included. Note that Plus40 is Pentair's newer cell, part number 523735, which replaced the legacy IC40 (520555) — it is not an IC40 and not an IC60. Two IntelliValve valve actuators are also included; this is what distinguishes 523961 from its otherwise identical sibling 523966, which ships ComPool actuators instead.

Control is through the IntelliCenter outdoor panel with its colour touchscreen, and remotely through the Pentair Pool app. The IntelliCenter board has no built-in Wi-Fi radio; connectivity comes from the included 900 MHz high-powered wireless Ethernet link, the same device Pentair sells separately as 523557, or alternatively from a hard-wired Cat-5 run into the back of the main board. The system handles scheduling, variable-speed pump control, heater setpoints and colour lighting, and it expands considerably — up to three enclosures and expansion kits can be joined over RS-485 for control of as many as 39 auxiliary circuits.
