It controls a pool and spa running on one pump, filter and heater, providing a dedicated filter pump circuit plus seven auxiliary circuits and automating the intake and return valve changeover between the two bodies of water. This is the part number to specify when the pool already has a sanitiser the owner intends to keep, or when chlorination is being sourced separately.

Worth knowing about the numbering: 521904 sits in Pentair's older 521xxx block but is not superseded. Pentair re-numbered only the salt bundles when the cell changed from IntelliChlor IC40 to IntelliChlor Plus40; the no-salt systems needed no new part number and 521904 remains in the current 2025–2026 Pentair catalogue. It ships in an IntelliCenter Load Center with a built-in 150 A circuit breaker subpanel and five pre-installed high-voltage relays, with the i8PS personality adding three more for eight total. Two IntelliValve valve actuators are included. There is no salt cell and no salt chlorine generator transformer in this bundle.

Control is through the IntelliCenter outdoor panel with colour touchscreen and remotely through the Pentair Pool app; the outdoor wireless antenna is included with the bundle. The system schedules equipment, drives variable-speed pumps, manages heater setpoints and controls colour lighting, and expands over RS-485 across as many as three enclosures for up to 39 auxiliary circuits. Expansion hardware includes the i5X and i10X expansion boards, a valve expansion card and a pool cover card.

A good fit for a substantial pool and spa where sanitisation is already handled — an existing chlorinator, a UV or ozone system, or tablet feed — but the automation, subpanel and valve control all need specifying together.
